How often do you get a Sports Massage?

  • Most elite athletes get at least one massage per week. For most amateur athletes who still take their sport and training seriously or regular gym-goers, once a week to once a fortnight is recommended. For most people who do regular light exercise once every two, three or four weeks is usually sufficient.

Do Sports Massages hurt?

  • When you do get a treatment for your muscles, those that are short or tight will be painful because they cannot squish, stretch or move under your therapists pressure, which then causes you pain. Deep tissue or sports massages shouldn't be painful if your muscles are completely supple and relaxed.

What does a Sports Massage do?

  • Sports Massage works deep in the muscles, realigning the muscle fibres and the connecting tissue and flushing away the toxins. Regular sessions will increase joint mobility and flexibility, and reduce the risk of injury during exercise.

What are the benefits of a Sports Massage?

  • The increased and enhanced blood circulation helps to relieve muscle tension, reduce soreness and make for a faster recovery. Then the relaxed muscles can experience an increase in range of motion and flexibility, as explained in a study in the journal of Sports Medicine and physical fitness. Muscles relax through heat generated circulation and stretching.

What is the difference between Sports Massage and deep tissue massage?

  • A deep tissue massage is perfectly explained by its name. The pressure is adjusted to manipulate the deeper tissue layers in the body. This is a job for a special trained Sports Massage therapist. A Sports Massage is manipulation of the soft tissue (muscle) in order to prevent or improve sports injuries.

What should you do after a Sports Massage?

  • Stay hydrated. Some studies question the benefits of drinking water after a Sports Massage but most massage therapist still encourage hydration to flush waste and prevent next day soreness. At least for those first hours after a Sports Massage, avoid caffeine and alcohol, which are dehydrating.

Do Sports Massages relate toxins in the body?

  • Many therapists believe that Sports Massage releases from the muscles and into the bloodstream. They assert that the water helps the kidneys and pancreas process those toxins.

Does Sports Massage make you ill?

  • Sports Massage doesn't make you ill, but you may feel like it, because Sports Massage releases free radicals that have built up inside muscular knots. Some people may feel a bit sick a day or so after a session. Sports Massage relives the tension and releases the toxins, now the immune system has to deal with it.

Is it good to get a massage straight after a work out?

  • Both before and after are good times to get a Sports Massage, both offer different benefits. Getting a Sports Massage before working allows the muscles to get warmed up and stretched out. Receiving a Sports Massage after lets the body and muscles help relax smoother and helps with not being so sore. Sports Massage also helps to release endorphins into the body.
